Steven Gerrard has joked that the Football Association and England’s coaching staff should be fined for pushing former club teenager Curtin Jones too late into the senior team.
Jones has been with the Lions since Under-16 level until midweek. When he made his senior debut, scoring the final goal and picking up the man of the match award as the Reds beat Greece 3-0 in the Nations League.

Another Reds legend, Steve Nicol, was full of praise but was still not convinced by the club’s academy product:
“Jones was outstanding in the last game. He scored the goal and started things for the team from just outside his own box. “He always makes the right decisions and passes the ball,” he
said. “Jones had a few injuries when he was at Liverpool. But he would play for two or three games and then it looked like he dropped off. “
Jones hasn’t had that this season so he might have turned things around. But I still have a feeling he’s on the fence, to be honest.”
